WeatherTech Racing to Start Third at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca

Race to be televised live on NBC

Monterey, Calif., (May 13, 2023) - WeatherTech Racing will start the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Motul Course de Monterey Powered by Hyundai N from third on the GTD Pro grid at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca tomorrow.

Daniel Juncadella (Spain) had the wheel of the No. 79 WeatherTech Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 with Mercedes-Benz of Billings, Montana support for the 15-minute qualifying session. The Spaniard put in a lap of 1:24.706 that will have him starting from the third grid spot in GTD Pro. Teamed with Jules Gounon (France) the WeatherTech Racing/Proton Competition crew have the car on pace for Sunday’s 3 p.m. ET race that will be televised live on NBC.

“It was a decent qualifying session,” Juncadella said. “It is not so easy to get the tire into the performance window here today, due to the heat in the track. I managed to do a decent lap time. I am happy with the effort. We will try to get a better result than Long Beach. We have the same BoP (balance of performance) but the car feels good here this weekend. The key to the race will be to manage the tires and the strategy. I feel we have a good WeatherTech Mercedes-AMG GT3, especially in race trim.”

The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Motul De Monterey Powered by Hyundai N will be televised live on NBC, and streamed on Peacock, starting at 3 p.m. ET on Sunday.
