WeatherTech Racing to Start Third at Sebring

Sebring, Fla. (March 17, 2023) - WeatherTech Racing will start the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring from third in GTD Pro for tomorrow’s 10:10 a.m. ET start at Sebring International Speedway.

Drivers Jules Gounon (France), Daniel Juncadella (Spain), and Maro Engel (Germany) have been working on the replacement No. 79 WeatherTech Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 with Mercedes-Benz of Billings, Montana support this week. The car that won the Rolex 24 in January has been retired in all of its gritty glory and will be on display in Bolingbrook, Illinois.

Juncadella had the honor of qualifying the WeatherTech Mercedes-AMG GT3 car in this morning’s 15-minute session. The Spaniard brought the car and Michelin tires up to temperature and put in a lap of 1:59.582 good for a third place starting position in GTD Pro for the once around the clock classic at Sebring.

“Qualifying was really good,” Juncadella said. “It’s always fun to be able to qualify with new tires on the car in the morning. It is a real rush at a track like Sebring. To be honest, I think I got everything out of the WeatherTech Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 this morning. It was a really good lap; the tire temps and pressures were just right. The WeatherTech Racing/Proton team have the car really hooked up. I think we have a good for the race.”

The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring will take the green at flag at 10:10 a.m. ET tomorrow, Saturday.
