Daytona Beach, Fla. (Jan. 29, 2023) - WeatherTech Racing is competing in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Rolex 24 At Daytona and is currently running second in GTD Pro.
The No. 79 WeatherTech Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 with Mercedes-Benz of Billings, Montana support has been a fixture at the front of the field, consistently running in the top three and spending time in the lead. All four drivers have circulated through the car with Daniel Juncadella (Spain) doing a triple stint of nearly three hours taking the car to mid-night.
“My first stint in the night is always good fun,” Juncadella said. “No big risk, no mistakes, just trying to save the car for the last hours. It is always difficult with the LMP3 cars on restarts with cold tires and they have no ABS, so it can be tricky. The WeatherTech Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 is running strong.”
When Juncadella handed the car to Maro Engel (Germany) under yellow the WeatherTech Racing/Proton Competition team took the opportunity to change front and rear brakes at 11:30 p.m. ET. Engel is behind the wheel for his second stint.
