WeatherTech Racing Ready for Second West Coast Race

Fort Lauderdale, Fla., (May 9, 2023) - WeatherTech Racing is headed to the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Motul Course de Monterey Powered by Hyundai N to run at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, May 12-14.

Daniel Juncadella (Spain) and Jules Gounon (France) both have history at the branded track located within a seal’s swim from Monterey Bay. Juncadella drove with Cooper MacNeil last year and Gounon has three starts at the undulating natural terrain road course.

The duo is poised to get back up on the podium after a strong start to the season that saw the team win the Rolex 24 At Daytona and finished third at Sebring. The 2.23-mile, 11-turn road course known for its Corkscrew downhill turn is a driver favorite.

“I love WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca,” Juncadella said. “I got to know the track last year when I drove with Cooper. I nearly qualified on pole, so it was a good first impression. There is so much race history there and it is set in a cool environment. I really enjoy the Corkscrew. My favorite section is the high-speed turns through three and four and the fast section that leads up the hill.

“We struggled last race with pace, so we will see if we can do better. Jules and I will be focused on having a good showing as WeatherTech is the sponsor of the track. We want to get the team back to the front this weekend.”

Gounon also has raced at the track located over the hill from Monterey Bay.

“I have raced at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca three times in the past,” Gounon said. “I am hoping we can be competitive this weekend. The BoP (balance of performance) was difficult for us in Long Beach. Dani and I will be looking to maximize our WeatherTech Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 car this weekend. We both have raced there, so we are hoping to hit the track with a fast car on Friday.

“The uphill run to the Corkscrew is always a good ride and going down through that turn is unlike any in racing. I am looking forward to being back with Dani and the WeatherTech Racing/Proton Competition guys this weekend.”

The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Motul De Monterey Powered by Hyundai N will be televised live on NBC, and streamed on Peacock, starting at 3 p.m. ET on Sunday. Qualifying will be streamed on Peacock and at IMSA.com on Saturday at 3:50 p.m.
