Fort Lauderdale, Fla., (Aug. 1, 2023) - WeatherTech Racing is headed to the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Sportscar Weekend at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, Aug. 3-6.
Daniel Juncadella (Spain) and Jules Gounon (France) lead the IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup standings with 33. They are third in the GTD Pro Championship points heading into the eighth race of the season and poised to have a strong run this weekend at WeatherTech’s home track in front of more than 200 enthusiastic company supporters.
The 4-mile, 14-turn, Road America track is a fan and driver favorite. The track was repaved last fall and should see lap times drop and close racing all weekend. Last year Juncadella got his first taste of the track located an hour north of Milwaukee where he drove with Cooper MacNeil. Gounon took his first laps three weeks ago supporting a fellow Mercedes-AMG GT3 competitor in another series. Both drivers are excited for the weekend.
“I had never raced at Road America,” Gounon said. “I had the opportunity to test there a couple of weeks in an SRO car and it is amazing! My favorite sector is the Carousel that leads to the fast Kink. It takes courage to get through there fast. The track was recently repaved which makes it very smooth and fast. Our WeatherTech Mercedes-AMG GT3 will be fun to race there. It is the home race for WeatherTech and we will be racing in front a lot of employees and friends, so we will be looking to make them proud.”
The track is special for Juncadella.
“My first experience at Road America was last year,” Juncadella said. “It’s a really fun track. With the resurface it should be a new challenge. The U.S. has very unique racetracks, they are much more fun and much more challenging than in Europe. My favorite sector, it’s hard to say, I like the combination of the total circuit. If I have to pick one, it would be sector one with its two high-speed corners. The WeatherTech family will be there this weekend, so Jules and I will be going for a maximum result.”
The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Sportscar Weekend will be televised live on USA, with an early start of, 11 a.m. ET on Sunday. Radio Le Mans will carry the full race at IMSA.com, RadioLeMans.com, and SiriusXM Radio (XM 207, SiriusXM Web/App 992).
