Campbell and Jaminet reunite with MacNeil
Fort Lauderdale, Fla. (November 9, 2021) – Matt Campbell (Australia) and Mathieu Jaminet (France) will reunite with Cooper MacNeil (Hinsdale, Ill.), for the 24th running of the Motul Petit Le Mans from Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta this weekend, Nov. 11-13.
When the trio last shared the seat of the No. 79 WeatherTech Racing Porsche RSR in Sebring they won. Coming to the season finale 2.54-mile, 12 turn Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta circuit is a fitting way to end the season. MacNeil has two wins at the track located 45-minutes north of Atlanta. Campbell also has a win and Jaminet has had a couple of near misses posting top five finishes.
“I have my two teammates back that I won Sebring with this past March,” MacNeil said. “The addition of the second WeatherTech Porsche will help us this weekend as well. We will have two sets of data to draw from and three additional pro drivers. I think it is going to be the typical crazy Petit Le Mans. There are 43 cars and with more nighttime running is a recipe for some crazy things to happen on the track. A little bit of sadness that this is the last run for these great GTLM Class Porsches but I am looking forward to a fast and fun race on Saturday.”
Campbell won the GTLM Class last year at Petit.
“I am really looking forward to Petit this weekend,” Campbell said. “It is the final event, so I hope we can finish on a high note, plus it is the last race for GTLM in IMSA. Last year I was lucky enough to win the race. There will be more night running, so we will have to manage traffic and see what happens. If we can fight for the race win and finish on the podium it would be fantastic.”
Jaminet is making his fourth start at Petit with top five finishes to his credit.
“Petit is a race I really enjoy,” Jaminet said. “Together with Sebring it is one of my favorite tracks in America. It gets a little crazy when it gets dark. There will be more dark running as the race is later in the year. I was close to winning it twice in the past. The Porsche has been really competitive there in the past, with the 911 RSR winning last year. Hopefully we can celebrate a nice evening on the podium Saturday evening.”
The 24th Annual Motul Petit Le Mans at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta will be broadcast live starting at noon ET Saturday, Nov. 13 on NBC before moving to NBCSN at 3 p.m. through the race conclusion. Nonstop coverage is also available on TrackPass on NBC Sports Gold and IMSA Radio (XM 202, SiriusXM Online 992).
