WeatherTech Racing Ready for GT Only Lime Rock

Fort Lauderdale, Fla., (July 18, 2023) - WeatherTech Racing is headed to the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship FCP Euro Northeast Grand Prix to run at Lime Rock Park, July 21-22.

Daniel Juncadella (Spain) and Jules Gounon (France) lead the IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup standings with 33 points. The duo are second in the GTD Pro Championship points heading into the seventh race of the season.

The 1.4-mile, 7-turn, Lime Rock Park track is, by far, the shortest on the IMSA WeatherTech Championship calendar. The weekend is GT only with GT Pro and GTD competitors headlining the weekend. The track is fast and will see lap times in the 50-second range.

The duo come off the weekend at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park with a podium finish in the No. 79 WeatherTech Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 with Mercedes-Benz of Billings, Montana support. Both drivers have competed at the track located within sight of the Appalachian Trail with Gounon running with WeatherTech Racing and Cooper MacNeil last year and Juncadella competing at the track, without the uphill chicane, in Formula BMW in 2008.

“I really like the track, which I ran for the first-time racing with Cooper last year,” Gounon said. “There are a lot of fans that surround the track on the outside and inside, so it gives a feel like you are racing in an arena. I don’t know of any other track that is this short. Since it is GT only, Lime Rock and VIR is our only chances during the season to take an overall win without the prototype cars on the track. That’s the goal this weekend!”

The track is special for Juncadella.

“I really like Lime Rock,” Juncadella said. “It is short and pretty cool. I had my first experience there in Formula BMW where I won my first international race. So, I have very good memories of Lime Rock. It is a different layout with the chicane going up the hill. I think the WeatherTech Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 will be good around that short track. We have a little more horsepower, so we will focus on the set-up and our strategy.

“Having a GT3 only weekend is always fun. Going for an overall win and not having to deal with the prototypes makes it a little more competitive.”

The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship FCP Euro Grand Prix will be televised live on USA and Peacock starting at 12 p.m. ET on Saturday. Radio Le Mans will carry the full race at IMSA.com, RadioLeMans.com, and SiriusXM Radio (XM 207, SiriusXM Web/App 992).
