Fort Lauderdale, Fla., (June 22, 2021) – Cooper MacNeil (Hinsdale, Ill.), Matt Campbell (Australia), and Mathieu Jaminet (France) are heading to the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen this weekend, June 24-27.
The trio of drivers that won the Sebring 12 hours returns in the No. 79 WeatherTech Racing Porsche 911 RSR for six hours of racing at the famed Watkins Glen International Raceway. The last time the group was together they stood on the top step of the IMSA GTLM podium celebrating a class win. Coming into the 3.4-mile, 11-turn Watkins Glen Raceway from a two-month hiatus, they are looking for another top performance with the support of the Proton Competition team.
“It seems like six months since Sebring,” MacNeil said. “I have had two ELMS races since then as well as four Ferrari Challenge wins, two of which were at The Glen last month. It will be good to get back in the IMSA car this weekend. We took the opportunity to test there recently so we expect to unload the No. 79 WeatherTech Racing Porsche in the sweet spot and just do some fine tuning for the race. We have great team spirit coming off of our win at Sebring and we will be looking to challenge the Corvettes and BMWs every lap this weekend.”
Jaminet will be a Watkins Glen rookie this weekend learning a new track.
“It has been a long time since Sebring,” Jaminet said. “I have not been in the car for a while. I have not raced at Watkins Glen before, so I will need to get up to speed very quickly to have a successful weekend. We showed at Sebring that even though we are a private team we are capable of doing great things. For sure expectations are high. We will fight hard to go for a podium and more. I am looking forward to seeing the boys again and going racing this weekend.”
For Matt Campbell it will also be his first-time racing at the track located in the heart of the Finger Lakes region of New York.
“It will be my first time racing at The Glen like Mathieu,” Campbell said. “We had a test there a few weeks ago and it went really well. I am looking forward to getting back in the car with Mathieu and Cooper this weekend. I will also be doing the WeatherTech 240 the following week with Cooper, but our focus is on the six-hour. So that is more mileage in the car and should be awesome. I am looking forward to seeing the fans there as well.”
The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen will start at 10:40 a.m. ET live on the TrackPass app. The race will be broadcast on NBCSN Saturday, July 3 at 8 p.m. IMSA Radio will have live coverage throughout the race weekend on TrackPass, IMSA.com, XM 392, and RadioLeMans.com.
