Zane Smith and the No.71 Spire Motorsports Team began their 2024 NASCAR Season at the 66th running of the Daytona 500. Smith raced his way into the top 10 by the second stage. Smith was able to avoid two large

crashes throughout the race and would take the checkered flag in 13th. “We had a really fast WeatherTech Chevrolet Camaro today in my first official race with the Spire Motorsports team. The guys worked hard all off-season to bring us a fast car to the Daytona 500 and we did a great job executing the race. We are going to keep this momentum up as we continue through the rest of the season and be ready to race next weekend in Atlanta."

 


SHANE VAN GISBERGEN

Started: 5th

FINISHED: 12th

 

  • Shane van Gisbergen qualified fifth in his NXS debut in the United Rentals 300 at Daytona International Speedway.

  • By lap five, Van Gisbergen was scored in 15th. Riding and logging laps, SVG was scored in 19th by lap 15 and reported his was a tick loose trafficThe first caution of the evening waved on lap 24 with Van Gisbergen scored in 16th. Under the caution the WeatherTech team hit pit road for four tires, fuel and air pressure adjustment. Following the stop SVG restarted 14th and finished the stage in 13th.

  • The No. 97 was involved in a multi-car accident on lap 30 while running inside the top 10. Van Gisbergen restarted 31st, one lap down, on lap 42 after fixing damage on pit road. The No. 97 team received the lucky dog following a multi-car wreck on the front stretch on lap 50. Van Gisbergen finished stage two in 17th.

  • The team restarted P8 and made a green-flag pit stop on lap 76 for fuel only from the 22nd position. Van Gisbergen cycled to 17th with 30 laps remaining in the race and continued on to 10th with 25 laps remaining. The No 97 restarted at the tail end of the longest line with 18 laps remaining. Van Gisbergen scored in 26th with a quick caution on lap 104. The No. 97 finished 12th in the United Rentals 300.
