MacNeil Sixth in European Le Mans Series

Spielberg, Austria, (May 16, 2021) – Cooper MacNeil (Hindsdale, Ill.), Christian Ried (Germany), and Matt Campbell (Australia) finished sixth in today’s running of the European Le Mans Series (ELMS) race at the Red Bull Ring.

MacNeil was making his first visit to the Red Bull Ring this weekend. Coming away with a positive run, a lot of laps under his belt and a sixth-place finish with the Proton Competition prepared No. 77 WeatherTech Racing Porsche 911 RSR it was all positive.

“I think it was a positive weekend,” MacNeil said. “We really struggled with straight line speed compared to the Ferrari cars. We had to take some gambles in the race and the rain late in the running helped too. For my first time in ELMS and my first time at the Red Bull Ring it was all good. We finished sixth, obviously we want to finish better than that, but I will take it in my first event in this series. Ultimately, I am looking for more seat time in the Porsche 911 RSR to help with our IMSA effort as well as for Le Mans. I think we achieved that this weekend. It was a decent outing. We will be looking for more at Paul Ricard in a few weeks.”

The next race for the team will be at Circuit Paul Ricard in Le Castellet, France, June 6.

The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship GTLM cars are in a three-month break with the next event being the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen, June 24-27.
