Le Castellet, France, (June 6, 2021) – Cooper MacNeil (Hindsdale, Ill.), Christian Ried (Germany), and Gianmaria Bruni (Italy) finished fourth in today’s running of the European Le Mans Series (ELMS) race at the Circuit Paul Ricard.
Once again taking on a new European circuit, MacNeil put in a lot of laps at the French track in this weekend’s ELMS race. After qualifying third, the trio of drivers drove the No. 77 WeatherTech Racing Porsche 911 RSR to fourth place finish with the strong support of the Proton Competition crew.
“We had a pretty good weekend qualifying third and finishing fourth,” MacNeil said. “It was my first time at Paul Ricard. It was good getting my first laps there and feeling what the WeatherTech Racing Porsche RSR likes and doesn’t like at that circuit. We had a good shot at the podium, finishing just one-second behind the third-place car. We didn’t quite get there but had a strong weekend as a team. The Proton Competition guys were on top of the car, the strategy, and the pit stops. We lacked a little top speed to the other GTE cars, but a good weekend.
“Onto Monza in early July. A track I have a lot of miles at, so I'm looking forward to that weekend. Next up for me is the Ferrari Challenge at Homestead, then The Glen with IMSA at the end of the month."
The next race for the ELMS team will be at Monza, July 11.
The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship GTLM cars are in a three-month break with the next event being the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen, June 24-27.
