Le Mans, France (June 18, 2017) – WeatherTech Racing drivers Cooper MacNeil, Bill Sweedler and Townsend Bell are running third GTE-Am 12 hours into the 24 Hours of Le Mans at the Circuit de le Sarthe.
As the sun came up at 6:15 CET, Bell was behind the wheel of the No. 62 WeatherTech Racing Ferrari 488 GTE-Am running in fourth just two laps back from the leader and one lap in arrears from the other two cars in front. Bell followed MacNeil who did the “grave yard” triple shift just before the sun rose over the famous Mulsanne straight. Bell gave way to Sweedler who did another three turns behind the wheel of the black-and-white Ferrari. The team is running strong in third with an eye on the top prize with six-hours remaining.
“I got in the WeatherTech Ferrari and 2 a.m. and got back out at 5 a.m.,” MacNeil said. “I ran consistent clean laps, never put a wheel off, no contact, just what we needed at that time. I wanted to save the car for Townsend so he could push. I ran my fastest lap ever here in the middle of the night, so that is cool. I think I have another double left to go. We are looking good. The car is running good for being 18 hours into Le Mans.”
“We are running strong and looking good in third with the sun rising,” Bell said. “I just got out of a triple stint on the same tires and I am feeling it. I haven’t raced since Sebring in March and it feels like it. If this was an NFL locker room I would take every available remedy.”
The race is airing on Fox Sports 1 and FOX Sports 2 (June 18) FS1: 1:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. (June 18).
