Elkhart Lake, Wis., (August 3, 2019) - WeatherTech Racing drivers Cooper MacNeil (Hinsdale, Ill.) and Toni Vilander (Kankaanpää, Finland) will start tomorrow's IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race at Road America from the fifth row.
MacNeil had the wheel of the No. 63 WeatherTech Racing Ferrari for what was supposed to be a 15-minute qualifying session. The run time was cut short due to lightening in the area. MacNeil was able put in just three flying laps in the Scuderia Corsa prepared Ferrari before the session was stopped. He posted a fast time of 2:06.537 that will have him starting the race from the fifth-row for tomorrow's 1:35 p.m. ET start.
"It was an okay qualifying session," MacNeil said. "We're starting tenth which is not ideal. On my second flyer I pushed too hard in Turn 7 and went four wheels off in the grass. I gathered it back up for another lap that was showing faster when unfortunately, a red flag came out. We found some more speed in the car over the last few days so thanks to the Scuderia Corsa crew for the effort. Thankfully tomorrow is not a 30-minute race, it's almost three hours so we have time and we'll be pushing hard."
The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship from Road America can be watched live starting at 1:35 pm ET on the NBC Sports App and NBCsports.com. The race will be rebroadcast on NBCSN at 6 pm ET. Fans can also listen live on IMSA Radio.
