BOLINGBROOK, ILL., (July 16, 2019) - WeatherTech Racing drivers Cooper MacNeil (Hinsdale, Ill.) and Toni Vilander (Kankaanpää, Finland) are ready for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Northeast Grand Prix from Lime Rock Park to run July 20-21.
The fast and tight Lime Rock Park circuit will have the IMSA GTD cars turning sub 60-second lap times around the 1.4-mile, 7-turn circuit comprised of one left hand turn and six right handers. This is one of two IMSA GT only weekends, with the GTD cars sharing the track with just the GTLM machines, the other is Virginia International Raceway. The layout of the Connecticut track rewards a good handling race car as the fast-downhill starting at West Bend (Turn 6) through the Downhill turn (Turn 7) that leads onto the main straight. However, with the fast lap times, one miscue on pit lane will cost valuable track position. MacNeil and Vilander will be looking to put a complete race together in the Scuderia Corsa prepared No. 63 WeatherTech Racing Ferrari this weekend.
"Lime Rock is a fast and tight Bull Ring," MacNeil said. "The key for us with the WeatherTech Ferrari will be to have a confident handling car coming down the hill through the last two turns. Running sub 60-second lap times gives you no time to rest. Our Ferrari shines through high-speed corners, so I am looking forward to this weekend. We need to have a mistake free run on the track and in the pits to get a positive result this Saturday."
"Lime Rock is a small and interesting race track," Vilander said. "We race without the prototypes, so the only traffic will be the GTLM cars. It was nice to get a weekend off and recharge as well as spend some time with the family. Lime Rock was my first ever race in the U.S. in 2006. I've always been very competitive there. It is a physical track, no time to rest. Some drivers like it, some don't, I like it. We will need to work hard on the set-up with the team to get the car handling and get a result for the 63 WeatherTech Racing Ferrari."
The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Northeast Grand Prix at Lime Rock Park will be streaming on the NBCSports App at 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM EDT and televised on NBCSN starting at 9:30 p.m. ET, July 20.
