WeatherTech Racing to Start Fourth at The Glen
Watkins Glen, N.Y., (June 29, 2019) - WeatherTech Racing drivers Cooper MacNeil (Hinsdale, Ill.), Toni Vilander (Kankaanpää, Finland), and Jeff Westphal (San Mateo, Calif.) will start from fourth in GTD for tomorrow's running of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Sahlen's Six Hours of The Glen.
The team rolled into the circuit under rainy skies this morning. The first practice session at 8 a.m. saw sprinkles to start with drying through the end of the one-hour session. The Scuderia Corsa crew had the team doing minimal laps as the forecast for race day does not include precipitation. Westphal had the wheel of the No. 63 WeatherTech Ferrari for the 15-minute qualifying session. He was able to post a lap time of 1:45.595 that will have him starting the car from the second row in fourth.
"We rolled off the truck here and didn't quite have the balance we wanted with the new tire compounds on the WeatherTech Ferrari," Westphal said. "We were working pretty hard as a team to try and find the balance for the race. I don't think our work is quite done. I think we took a big step the right way. I had a fair amount of understeer we're still trying to get out of the car. It really stopped it from rolling through the center. Knowing the Scuderia Corsa team and their experience we can do that. They're pretty sharp when it comes to Ferraris, they know what they're doing. We're probably going to be tuning on it all the way up to the race but fourth isn't bad. I'm happy we're starting that far up the grid and we'll just keep chipping away."
The IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car Championship Sahlen's Six Hours of The Glen race will be televised on NBCSN and IMSA.com starting at 9:30 a.m. ET, Sunday, June 30. Fans can also listen to live race coverage on IMSA Radio on IMSA.com and RadioLeMans.com.
