Lexington, Ohio, (May 5, 2019) - WeatherTech Racing drivers Cooper MacNeil (Hinsdale, Ill.) and Toni Vilander (Kankaanpää, Finland) raced to a seventh-place finish in today's running of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Acura Sports Car Challenge at Mid-Ohio.
MacNeil had the wheel of the No. 63 WeatherTech Racing Ferrari for the two-hour-and-40-minute race. A tough qualifying session and feverish pace to the race with only one caution period made it tough to make up track position today. MacNeil and Vilander drove a strong race with no mistakes, but track position and a tough GTD field would only surrender a seventh-place finish.
"We had tough and trying weather conditions all week long, then the sun came out for the race," MacNeil said. "We had to guess on the dry set-up and we kind of missed it. We had a lot of understeer in the car, especially in traffic. The good news is the car is in one piece. We finished significantly higher than we started, which is always the goal. We will be ready for Detroit at the end of the month."
"The sun came out for the race, so we had to change from our warm-up set-up when it was cool out," Vilander said. "The car was a handful in the corners and with the pace of the GTD field you really have to have everything working great. With only one yellow, that came late, it was difficult to improve our track position. We will work on it and be ready for a street fight in Detroit."
The IMSA WeatherTech Sport Car Championship competitors will travel to Detroit for the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix, May 31 to June 1.
